FAQ

Questions, answered

Everything you might want to know before installing.

Yes. Mischi is free to download and use. There are no accounts, no subscriptions, and no paid tier. If you enable AI chat with your own Groq API key, the only cost is whatever Groq charges for usage.

No. Mischi runs entirely on your Mac. No accounts, no servers, no telemetry. The only network activity happens if you opt in to AI chat, and even then requests go directly from your Mac to Groq, using the API key you supplied.

Mischi ships as a Universal Binary for macOS 13 (Ventura) and later. It runs natively on Apple Silicon (M-series) and on Intel Macs.

Mischi ships with Groq and is bring-your-own-key. Paste in your Groq API key, choose from the available Groq models in settings, and requests go directly from your Mac to Groq. Mischi doesn’t sit in the middle, doesn’t bundle a model, and doesn’t sell credits. Press ⌘+K to open chat.

Everything lives locally in ~/Library/Application Support/Mischi/: pet packs, preferences, and (if you enable it) your AI chat history. Delete that folder to fully reset Mischi. Each pet is a self-contained directory you can copy, back up, or share.

Yes. Pets are just a folder containing a pet.json and a spritesheet (PNG or WebP, 192×208px per frame). The creator docs walk through animation states, hitboxes, and frame timing. A visual editor is on the roadmap.

Not today. Mischi relies on macOS-specific window behavior: transparent always-on-top overlays that work across Spaces and full-screen apps. A Windows port is something we’re exploring. iOS isn’t on the roadmap, since the sandbox model doesn’t allow desktop pets.

No. The app has no analytics, no crash reporting, and no usage telemetry, and it never phones home. The only thing we ever collect is your email, and only if you opt in to the launch waitlist. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
